A Youth Run Club Update
It's been a very busy year for Russell Run Club, and there's still lots on the horizon before 2026 wraps up, including the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Challenge and the Russell Run. It's also been a very full year for me personally.
I've made the difficult decision not to offer a fall Youth Run Club session this year. I'll be taking a break from coaching for the remainder of 2026. I'm trying to be realistic about how much I can take on and, more importantly, do well.
As Head Coach and founder, the youth running programs are something I'm very passionate about. I've loved coaching these kids and watching the program grow. Interest from kids and families certainly isn't the problem.
What we do need are more coaches and volunteers. For the program to continue and grow, we need a bigger team around it rather than relying on one or two people to keep it going. If you've ever thought about coaching or volunteering with our young runners, I'd love to hear from you.
For the remainder of 2026, my focus will be on the Prescott-Russell Recreational Trail Challenge and the Russell Run. I want to ensure both events are delivered to the standards we've set. This break will also give me an opportunity to step back and reassess our youth programming, our priorities and where the club goes heading into 2027.
Thank you to all of the kids, families and volunteers who have been part of the program this year. I care a lot about what we've built and want to make sure we can continue to do it well.
