What an action-packed few weeks with the Russell Run Club. We had a group participate in the St. Lawrence Marathon and other races in this area. We had lots of personal bests, broken records and milestones. And some achievements that didn't require a race (and included a dog).

The rain did not stop these gentlemen for our first trail run of the season.

Club News

Summer/Fall Running Clinic

Our Summer/Fall Running Clinics kicked off this past Tuesday with a great turnout from Learn to Run through to the 1/2 marathon distance.

We welcomed an enthusiastic group and with a variety of experiences and goals. We had new runners and those coming back from a break due to injury, kids or just life. After a quick orientation we head out for an easy 20 to 30 minute run or walk.

It's not too late if you would like to join us. You can register here.

Trail Run

Despite the rainy weather, we had three dedicated members kick off our first Wednesday evening trail run at Larose Forest. We have received a lot of interest in the run - hopefully some drier weather will bring out more runner and hikers.

Interested in joining? Just scroll on down to This Week's Schedule for all the details.

Meet up with Ryan Keeping

Some of our club members joined Ryan Keeping on Saturday, May 4th for a few kilometers of his attempt to run across Canada and raise money for the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

IFCS World Agility Championship

Shandy Blake and her husband Ben joined our learn to run clinic for a unique reason. Shandy and her border collie, Logan, compete in dog agility events. And not just any one - they are on Team Canada. Shandy joined to help keep up with Logan and also to be fit enough to enjoy some hiking when they were overseas competing.

Congratulations to Logan and Shandy on their gold medal at the World Agility Championship in France.

Some Achievements Don't Need a Race

A cross fit competition prevented Jamie Hvidsten from running her 10 km at St. Lawrence Marathon. But she still got it done with a new Personal Best. Congratulations.

"Well since I couldn't make it to the race last weekend, I told myself I would still run a 10km. Today was the day!
Super happy with the result! Thanks to the clinic and guidance, I shaved off about 8 mins from my previous 10km PR!

This Week at the New York Central Fitness Trail parkrun

Matt Kingswood with his future son-in-law and groomsmen

The 107th New York Central Fitness Trail deserves a spot in this week's newsletter. It was a morning of personal best, record breaking and milestones.

  • Matt Kingswood brought his future son-in-law and groomsmen for a pre-wedding run. A few of them were track athletes which meant the parkrun recorded got brought down by over two minute to 17:30. Not by one of them but by three.

  • Paul Lalonde leveraged all that energy and hit a sub-20 minute 5 km (19:59). He managed to reclaim his age graded record.

  • Congratulations to Melisande Carriere on her 50th parkrun milestone. And she did it with new 5 km personal best.
