August 2025 Run-Down

It feels like August disappeared in a blink, but our members made the most of it. From toeing the line at local races, to celebrating our founder’s community award for creating the Russell Run Club to hosting our very first Community Track Fest, it was a month full of milestones.
We also put the call out for volunteers for our next big adventure across Prescott–Russell. September is shaping up to be just as exciting — and we can’t wait to share it with you.

Community Trackfest
A small but mighty crew of athletes—from the young to the young at heart—joined us for our very first Family & Friends event at the Russell High School Track. We packed the evening with games and challenges, from shot put to the 100 m dash, a prediction run, and a last-man-standing race.
We’re grateful for the athletes and volunteers who made this Friday evening so special. This event truly captured what our club is all about: fun, community, and making running (and socializing!) feel welcoming and approachable. We’re already looking forward to hosting more of these events next year.
Running in Kilts
Congratulations to Dave, Clair, Maurice and Paul for not just running 5km at the Glengarry Highland Games but completing the distance in kilts!

The Up the Glen 5km Kilt Run took place on Saturday, August 2nd. It was touch and go whether they would find a kilt for Dave but in the end, all runners sported the mandatory dress code and wore it well!
Great Raisin River Footrace
Members Dave Sadler and Maurice Bonneville participated in the Great Raisin River Footrace on Sunday, August 10, 2025.
Dave's time of 56:25:15 squeeked past Maurice's 56:58:75 in the 11km event. However, Maurice still came away with 1st place in his age category.
Congratulations to you both.
Avonmore Berry Farm's Run The Farm 5km
Community runs don’t get better than this. The Run the Farm 5K at Avonmore Berry Farm checked all the boxes — small, social, supportive, and for a great cause. A crew from the Russell Run Club joined the Cornwall Multisport Club at this event in support of the Canadian Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.

From the Sadler’s warm-up run to the start and cool-down back home, to running through berry patches, veggie gardens, and apple orchards… it was a perfect change of terrain. Post-run strawberry popsicles and cookies at the farm = the win
Huge thanks to Clair & Dave for the hospitality and to everyone who made the day special. Until next year!
Jay Takes on the Grit and Grind
Jay says he "had an epic experience in my first true trail race this morning at Camp Fortune. It is so different then running on the road and It felt like a true escape. Mainly cuz if I didn’t concentrate on every step it would end badly hahah. 10k in they hit us with a monster final climb before a decent to the fish. This beast was 38 degree elevation and I was on my hands and knees for about 1.5 to the top lol."
We guess that's what you get when you decide to run up a ski hill! The event took place on August 24 at the Grit and Grind at Camp Fortune and Jay finsihed it up in 2:01:21. Congratulations for completing what sounds like a gruelling event.
A Well Deserved Citizen Award
Our very own head coach, Michelle Leduc, was nominated for the Township of Russell's Citizen Award for Sports, Community Service and Volunteerism in recognition of her active involvement in the community with the Russell Run Club.
Clothing Store is Live
Our Russell Run Club online clothing store is officially live!
After lots of back-and-forth on designs, we’re thrilled to finally have our gear available online. This new platform means members and Russell Run Club groupies can order clothing anytime of the year—and it takes a big load off the admin team.

A few things to know:
The current line is sublimated technical gear (not cotton), made-to-order.
Items are printed on demand → no refunds or exchanges.
Delivery time: 20–25 business days (still quicker than when we did it ourselves!).
We have not marked up the items - you will get them at cost.
Free shipping on orders over $200—pair up with a friend to save costs.
For those who love cotton tees, cozy hoodies, and shackets, we’ll run a separate embroidered order soon, since those items don’t work with sublimation.
Check out the store here:
Volunteers Needed for Prescott-Russell Challenge
The ultra‑distance Prescott‑Russell Recreational Trail Challenge takes place on Saturday September 27, 2025 along the scenic rail trail between St. Eugene and Hammond.
Runners rely on volunteers to keep them fuelled and safe, and the club is looking for friendly, energetic people to help with the following roles:
Aid stations – Hand out water, electrolytes and snacks, and cheer on participants.
Course marshaling & cheering – Help direct runners at key turns and offer encouragement.
Set‑up and take‑down – Assist with assembling and dismantling tents, signs and tables.
Volunteers can help for a few hours or the whole day. You’ll enjoy the small‑town atmosphere and get a front‑row seat to inspiring feats of endurance. Interested? Email michelle@russellrunclub.ca.
Race or Training Recaps
Races and runs are full of highs, lows, and unexpected moments. Help us inspire the RRC community by sharing yours—no need to be poetic, just be real.
What Was the Russell Run Club Up to This Month?
Here are some successes, challenges and just good vibes:
"The 11.9 k I did last Sunday put me into a state of overtraining, so I've been doing one mile streak savers all week while I readjust to what my body was telling me. I'm not injured, but now I know where my weaknesses exist, so that I can adjust my strength and flexibility training in order to correct the imbalance."
~Craig P.
"I am continually impressed by the encouragement found in this community of athletes - whether they are running with specific goals in mind, or just because they can!"
~Norm F.
"Highest weekly distance in a while and felt great. Minus the chafing today…."
~Norman S.
"Did my longest training run Saturday. Now just tapering until the big day. Sunday mornings are my favourite so I had to come out no matter how tired I was."
~Shiloh G.
"We were 17 strong and post run coffee starts my Sundays on a high!
Julie and I met at 6:30am to put some extra km’s on. Between Hyrox training and running my body is screaming at me for a break soon."
~Tara Q-P.
