Holy moly, July was hot!

Was it the weather—or was it our members and the local running community absolutely burning up the roads and trails? Either way, things were on fire (figuratively, thankfully). Let’s take a look back at all the heatwaves, hard runs, high fives, and highlights from a sizzling summer month.

Canada Day in Brockville

We've always had great support from the Brockville Road Runners, so it was our turn to pay it forward and participate in their Canada Day Run.

Many showed up in their red and white to toe the line in the 5km event.

Meet Me on Main Street

On July 15, the Russell Run Club greeted the community at the Meet Me on Main Street event. The event was a great success with lots of locals inquiring about the club and what we offer.

A few of those who came by the booth have since come out to our group runs. Be sure to keep an eye out for these fresh faces and make them feel welcome.

Derek is ripping up the trails

Derek Gillard decided July would be a good time for some trail challenges.

ree

On Saturday, July 4th Derek participated in the Limberlost Challenge, tackling the 56km technical trail in 9:06:48.

Not one to sit around, Derek was back at it just 3 weeks later completing 4 laps of the Last Man Standing Lake Placid trail challenge. Participants do a loop of the 4.1 mile course every hour until there is only one man standing. Dereks 4 laps gave him a total distance of over 26km.

Congratulations, Derek on your trail racing adventures!

La Baie Run L'Orignal

A few of our Russell Run Club members made the trip to beautiful L'Orignal, ON on July 19, 2025 to toe the line at distances ranging from 1km to half-marathon. The race did not disappoint! A record-breaking 651 participants enjoyed the great atmosphere and weather and raised $30,000 for a number of great causes.

Our club members and friends put in some impressive times as well:

Half Marathon

• Maurice Bonneville – 1:55:28

• Robin Carriere – 1:57:02

• Rox Sasseville – 2:10:44

10K

• Paul Lalonde – 46:09 (6th Overall!)

• Sebastien Gareau – 1:02:38 (PB alert!)

• Line Lalonde – 1:08:42

 5K

• Amelie Lalonde – 28:35 1K

• Tom – 4:51

Congratulations to everyone who participated and to the race organizers for putting on a great event.

What Was the Russell Run Club Up to This Month?

Here are some successes, challenges and just good vibes:

"Hot, hot hot! Lots of walk breaks…

I’m thankful for todays run meetup to keep me accountable! "

~Erika M.

"Locked in for my very first full marathon, 11 weeks out. Lots of kms, strength training twice a week, hill repeats and some speed work, don’t forget the spin bike. Trying to stay injury free just like everyone else is a full time job. Ran 22K today, Keith Morrison Dateline, true crime podcast for my first hr then 90’s Dance club mix for remainder. LOL whatever it takes!!!!"

~Crystal M.

"Third week of the half training for Logan and I and we haven't missed a run yet. Logan got new shoes yesterday, Asics Novablast5, and ran 11.3km last night. He loves them."

~Tom V.

"Back to strength training which feels great. And upped my distance a bit. Thanks to Gabriel and Tara for their support!"

~Jennifer T.

"Halfway through my “Returning to Run” plan for a 5K, and I’m seeing progress with every run. I no longer have any heel pain from my injury—huge thanks to my amazing physio, Chanyque, and of course, time… lots of time! Running with my spouse continues to bring me so much joy.

The goal: complete the Try-a-Tri in Brockville on August 10 (I’m also training on the bike and in the pool), and then run a continuous 5K the following week.

I can’t wait to take on both of these challenges—and to rejoin group runs by the end of the summer!"

~Vero S.

"The humidity kicked my butt during my long run Friday but got the kms in anyway.

The goal. 50 miles at the Prescott-Russell Trail Challenge."

~Shiloh G.
